QuickRec privacy policy

Last updated 18 October 2026

Early access. QuickRec is a new product that is still being tested. There is no support channel yet; use it only if you are comfortable with that.

QuickRec is a screen recorder (a Chrome extension and a Windows app) with an optional server for share links. This page explains what each part stores and where.

Recording on your computer

Recordings are made and encoded on your computer. By default the finished MP4 is saved to your Downloads folder (extension) or Videos folder (Windows app) and never leaves your device. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose a destination other than "This PC".

If you sign in to a QuickRec server

  • Account: your email address and a salted hash of your password. The password itself is never stored.
  • Videos: the recordings you upload, their titles, categories and the company they belong to, stored so that share links work. You can delete a video at any time from its page; the file is removed from storage.
  • Viewer log: when someone opens a share link, the server records the time, the viewer's IP address, browser type and approximate location (city and country derived from the IP), so the uploader can see who watched. Views by the uploader and their teammates are not logged.
  • Notes: notes are encrypted on your device with a key derived from your password before they are sent. The server stores only ciphertext and cannot read them.
  • Companies and team: the names of companies you create, the email addresses you invite, and each member's role.

The server is operated by the person or organisation whose address you entered in Settings. QuickRec does not run a central server and has no access to servers run by others. Logging out removes the session from your device; the server keeps your account and uploads until you delete them.

Google Drive and YouTube (optional)

If you connect Google Drive or YouTube, QuickRec uses your own Google OAuth client and asks only for permission to upload files it creates (drive.file, youtube.upload) and to read your email address to label the connection. The refresh token is stored on your device in extension storage or the app's account file, and is never sent to a QuickRec server. Disconnecting removes it.

What QuickRec does not do

  • No analytics, tracking pixels or advertising identifiers.
  • No data is sold or shared with third parties beyond the services you connect yourself.
  • No browsing history or page content is read.

Browser permissions used by the extension

  • desktopCapture, offscreen: to record the screen, window or tab you pick.
  • downloads: to save the MP4 and open it afterwards.
  • storage, unlimitedStorage: settings, sign-in tokens and the recording in progress.
  • identity: the Google sign-in window for Drive and YouTube.
  • notifications, clipboardWrite: to tell you a recording finished and copy its link.

Your choices

Delete any video from its page. Log out and disconnect Google from Settings. To delete a server account entirely, ask the operator of that server.
